We had a blast on Teddy Bear Day II. Thanks so much for all the goody donations! We still have a ton of juice that I'm sure we'll be using all next week.
There is no school for students on Monday, the 18th. There will be a guest teacher on Tuesday, as the entire fifth grade team has day-long training.
With seven instructional weeks to go before the FCAT (April 15th), we'll gradually begin moving into FCAT preparation mode. There are many activities on our Moodle that can help with FCAT preparation, especially in science and math. In addition, a little time spent nightly with online FCAT practice or with IXL math can't hurt!
I'm thinking ahead about rockets (I have begun the ordering process). We could use some extra sandpaper (fine) and wood glue for rockets. We will also need some cans of spray paint. Contact me about the spray paint instead of sending it in. Thanks!
I'd like to begin thinking about the possible field trip to the beach on Thursday, May 30th. It's an all day event, with plenty of science and plenty of fun. We can't do this trip using buses. We need PB parents. It costs fifty dollars for me to reserve a shelter, so before I do, I'd like to know that we have enough drivers. If you think you can drive that day and you're registered as level 2 for Tallahassee, please let me know. You have to eventually register your auto, complete with insurance information. Not only that, but your car will get sandy. There's no way around it! But the trip is really a blast, and I can cover gas and tolls if needed.
There is a spelling list this week. There is very little homework except for working on the Civil War report. Need material? Just ask!

We will have FCAT practice most days. There will be spelling and reading, too. We're still doing earth science (mostly weather, but we will be moving into our Solar System) in science and Civil War in social studies.
Spelling: Week 24. Click here for this week's spelling practice. Tests: Spelling, math, and science on Thursday. All are on Moodle and can be practiced and previewed throughout the week.
Homework is light. There may be unannounced homework due Thursday and Friday. PBs should be writing down assignments in their notes or agendas now. Read and Respond is due each day.
Due Thursday, February 21: Bring in what you have of your Civil War report. I don't expect to see much, but I would like to see a list of possible topic headings and one or two sources. We do go to the public library on Wednesday.
PBs generally have plenty of time to begin homework in class (so I can see who needs extra instruction).
All Week or Long-Term: Work on your Civil War report
